Ames, IA (SportsNetwork.com) - Naz Long poured in 20 points and Georges Niang added 15, leading 11th-ranked Iowa State to an 86-81 win over No. 9 Kansas on Saturday at Hilton Coliseum. Dustin Hogue chipped in 14 points for Iowa State (13-3, 3-1 Big 12), which bounced back from a 74-73 loss at Baylor on Wednesday. The Cyclones extended their home winning streak to 16 games, including nine straight against conference opponents. Perry Ellis scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Kansas (14-3, 3-1), which entered the contest as the last unbeaten team in conference play. The Jayhawks had a five-game winning streak stopped. They were a lot faster than us, said Kansas coach Bill Self. I think they surprised us early in the game by getting it out quick and beating us a couple of possessions down the floor. We didnt do a good job of that at all. They outplayed us. Iowa State extended a three-point halftime advantage to 12 points just over five minutes into the second half, as Niangs layup made it 51-39. Kansas, though, followed with a 14-4 run and pulled within 55-53 on a Kelly Oubre Jr. dunk with 9 1/2 minutes remaining. A Jameel McKay dunk then ignited a 16-4 Iowa State surge. McKay added four more points during the burst, which also featured triples from Niang and Long. Longs layup capped it and gave the Cyclones a 71-57 cushion with 6 1/2 minutes to play. Kansas again rallied and a bucket by Oubre made it 74-70, but Iowa State countered with a quick layup by Monte Morris, got a stop and added a Hogue dunk for an eight-point game. The Jayhawks didnt quit and pulled within 82-79 in the final minute thanks to some poor free throw shooting by Iowa State. Morris made the second of two free throws for a two-possession game, but Wayne Selden was called for a charge at the other end with 14 seconds remaining. Bryce Dejean-Jones continued the Iowa State trend by making 1-of-2 at the line, but Frank Mason III missed a runner in the lane for Kansas and Long sealed it with two at the stripe. We are really struggling from the free throw line right now, said Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg. Well keep working on them. It would have been nice to keep that (lead) at double digits, but Kansas does that to you. Its a team that knows how to win and the games not over until the buzzer sounds. Mason led the Jayhawks with 21 points and Selden added 12 in defeat. Dejean-Jones scored 12 points, while McKay and Morris each finished with 11. Morris also contributed 10 assists and a matched a career high with seven rebounds. Kansas opened an 8-3 lead early, but Iowa State quickly answered with eight of the next 10 for an 11-10 lead and it remained close until the final minutes of the first half. The Cyclones opened a 34-28 lead on a Hogue 3-pointer with 1:49 left, but Kansas responded with five straight before Longs basket sent Iowa State to the break with a 36-33 edge. SAN ANTONIO -- Steven Bowditch held on to win the Texas Open in windy conditions Sunday for his first PGA Tour victory and a spot in the Masters. The 30-year-old Australian bogeyed the par-5 18th for a 4-over 76 for a one-stroke victory. "Im over the moon. I really cant believe it," said Bowditch, who attempted suicide in 2006 and has fought depression throughout his career. It was the highest closing score by a winner since Vijay Singh finished with a 4-over 76 in the 2004 PGA Championship, and the highest in a non-major since Fred Couples had a 5-over 77 in the 1983 Kemper Open. Bowditch finished at 8-under 280 at TPC San Antonio and earned $1,116,000. "Every time I got out of check, looking ahead to the Masters and winning golf events and making my speeches before I was finished, I had to pull myself in check every time," said Bowditch, wearing a green shirt. "And it happened a lot today." Bowditch, based in Dallas, entered the week 339th in the world and had only two top-10 finishes in eight years on the tour. He won once on the Australasian circuit and twice on the Web.Com Tour. "Hes been a battler. Hes gone through a lot in his life," said John Senden, a fellow Australian who won the Valspar Championship two weeks ago. Senden waited about an hour after his round to shake Bowditchs hand. "That last putt wasnt his best, but to finish it off he was as coool as a cucumber really," Senden said.dddddddddddd"Im proud to be his mate." Will MacKenzie and Daniel Summerhays tied for second. MacKenzie shot 70, and Summerhays had a 71. Calgarys Stephen Ames was the top Canadian. Ames shot a 74 to finish in a tie for 16th place. Chesson Hadley and Ryan Palmer missed chances to get into the Masters through the top 50 in the world ranking. Hadley, the Puerto Rico Open winner, needed at least a sixth-place finish, but closed with an 80 to tie for 56th at 5 over. Palmer needed a top-three finish and had an 82 to also tie for 56th. Bowditch played the front nine in 3-over 39, making a double bogey on the par-4 fourth. He countered a bogey on the par-3 13th with a birdie on the par-5 14th and made three pars before missing a 3-foot par putt and settling for a bogey on 18. On the par-3 16th, he got up-and-down after missing the green. He pushed his drive on the par-4 17th, hit his approach on the green and two-putted, then pulled his tee shot left on 18, recovered with a shot to the fairway and reached the green in three. "I just drew back on some experience," Bowditch said. MacKenzie made a 13-foot birdie putt on the 17th to pull within a stroke of Bowditch, but the Australian tapped in from 2 feet for his birdie at No. 14 to push the advantage back to two. Matt Kuchar and Andrew Loupe shot 75s to tie for fourth at 6-under.
