EAST RUTHERFORD T.J. Hockenson Jersey , N.J. (AP) — to hand over the job as the New York Giants‘ starting quarterback. With fans and many in the media calling for him to be benched with the Giants off to a second straight 1-7 start, the 37-year-old Manning insisted Monday he wants to play when New York takes the field against the 49ers in San Francisco on Nov. 12.Before Manning spoke, Coach Pat Shurmur said the 15-year veteran remains his starting quarterback, but he will be evaluating everything during the upcoming bye week.“I’ve always been a team player, and do kind of what I’m told,” Manning said. “I expect and want to be the starting quarterback until I’m told differently.”To be honest, Shurmur doesn’t have many good options at quarterback.Alex Tanney has played in one game in his three years in the league, appearing for Tennessee in 2015. Rookie Kyle Lauletta was a fourth-round draft pick out of Richmond. Neither has played a down this season.Making a change would allow the Giants, who are 4-20 over the past 1½ seasons, a chance to evaluate Tanney and Lauletta in a regular-season game.Former coach Ben McAdoo was in a similar position last season and gave veteran Geno Smith a start against Oakland when many felt Dave Webb, a third-round draft pick in 2017, would get a chance to show his stuff.Manning was not only benched, but his streak of consecutive starts was snapped at 210.The Giants lost the game and McAdoo and general manager Jerry Reese were fired days later. Manning returned as the starting quarterback the following week.Manning has hit 215 of 315 passes for 2,377 yards, a completion rate of 68 percent. The problem is the offense is not scoring in the red zone. Manning has eight touchdown passes Justice Hill Jersey , with most coming late in the fourth quarter.“I think the answer just comes to execution,” Manning said. “We got good players. There’s some good football. There are some good plays. There’s some big plays, some explosive plays. There’s just some bad football as well. So, it’s just cleaning up the bad stuff.”There is a lot to clean up.The revamped offensive line has struggled. Manning, whose biggest weakness is his lack of mobility, has been sacked 31 times, with seven coming in the 20-13 loss to Washington on Sunday.Despite the addition of Saquon Barkley, the running game is ranked among the bottom three. It gained 37 yards against the Redskins.Manning said the offense won’t be changing the system in the bye week. The goal will be to figure out what is working well and what plays can be run either more or differently. The goal will be to keep the Giants in manageable situations and to avoid sacks.“We’ve just got to find ways to be productive, whether you get the ball out quickly or more max protection, or just have a combination of the two, or move in the pocket,” Manning said. “Just things to try to get us out of those situations, because sacks are drive killers. We have playmakers. We got to get them the ball, and get it to them in a timely fashion, and let them make plays.”Shurmur chose his words carefully talking about evaluating the quarterback position.“Yeah http://www.ravenscheapstores.com/ben-powers-jersey-cheap , I think Eli is our quarterback; but I did say, and again, I know you’re all trying to tease a headline out,” Shurmur said. “At this point, Eli is our quarterback, and we are looking at all areas to improve. That’s where it’s at.”The coach said Lauletta and Tanney have been taking snaps all season to be ready to play. He said he has not considered lifting Manning in any game this season.NOTES: Right tackle Chad Wheeler hurt his right foot and ankle. He was in a walking boot Monday, but he hopes to be ready for the 49ers. … With the trading deadline on Tuesday, Shurmur said he will talk with general manager Dave Gettleman. New York traded cornerback Eli Apple and defensive tackle Damon Harrison last week. ATLANTA (AP) — Jared Goff trudged to the Los Angeles Rams‘ bench, his face betraying confusion and despair while the Patriots celebrated their interception behind him.Sean McVay left the sideline and leaned into his ear. The coach didn’t say much, but he encouraged his quarterback to learn from a disastrous night in the Super Bowl.McVay and Goff are likely to be together for many more years, and they hope they’ll remember their embarrassing 13-3 loss Sunday as a springboard to the future, not the crushing flop that it felt like immediately afterward.Goff went 19 of 38 for 229 yards with a key fourth-quarter interception , yet even those pedestrian numbers don’t reflect his full array of overlooked receivers , inaccurate throws and inability to adjust to the Patriots’ defense.“It’s the toughest loss I ever had,” Goff said. “It kills. It’s terrible. It’s a game I wish I would have played better. I wish I could have a million plays back.”Goff played a large role in the Rams’ defeat Iman Marshall Jersey , yet almost nothing went right for a team that has been frequently brilliant with the ball in its hands. With just 260 total yards, just six first downs in the first three quarters and a season-high nine punts, the Rams barely resembled a McVay-coached offense while matching the lowest-scoring performance in Super Bowl history.Los Angeles has led the league in points per game over the past two seasons, yet the Rams became just the second team in NFL history to fail to score a touchdown in the Super Bowl.Casual football fans getting their first looks at the Rams at a Super Bowl party probably had no idea how LA got to Atlanta after watching this tentative, inconsistent performance. All of the Rams’ recent success came to a weird anticlimax at Mercedes-Benz Stadium with their lowest-scoring performance in 36 games under the 33-year-old head coach.“I’m pretty numb right now, but definitely I got outcoached,” McVay said. “I didn’t do nearly a good enough job for our football team. … This one is going to stick with you. It just stings in your gut.”Though Goff’s teammates and coaches refused to blame him, Los Angeles’ 24-year-old quarterback had one of the rougher performances in Super Bowl history. Along with his 19 incompletions, he was sacked four times, committed a key false start in the fourth quarter and finished with a 57.9 passer rating. The Rams all seemed to know exactly what Bill Belichick had done against them defensively. The Pats showed deceptive fronts before the snap, and they frequently retreated into zone pass defenses that forced Goff to find open receivers in a confusing coverage.Although McVay strenuously blamed his play-calling for putting his players in untenable positions, Goff realized he needed to make more consistent throws and better decisions at the line of scrimmage. Everything was capped by his underthrown pick near the New England end zone, crushing the Rams’ hopes for a tying touchdown with 4:17 to play.Goff has grown from a shaky No. 1 pick into a two-time Pro Bowl selection under McVay, and his best games have been outstanding. But his lows are frequently disheartening — and this game appeared to be among his worst.Goff had only nine completions in the first three quarters before getting 10 more in the fourth while the Rams’ rally fell short.“We were moving the ball well at times, but we just couldn’t get that one play http://www.ravenscheapstores.com/trace-mcsorley-jersey-cheap ,” Goff said. “We know what type of offense we have, and to not be able to show that, it’s tough.”The Rams’ first eight drives in the Super Bowl ended in punts and resulted in only 72 net yards. But with its defense playing brilliantly, Los Angeles still could have taken the lead late in the third quarter when Brandin Cooks broke wide open on a post route.Instead, he stood waving in the end zone while Goff saw him belatedly and uncorked a throw that took far too long to get there, allowing New England to knock it down.“I was surprised he was that wide open,” Goff said. “I tried to get it to him as quickly as I could. It was too late.”Goff was in the midst of his best drive right before his interception. He hit Josh Reynolds in perfect stride for an 11-yard gain and a first down with just over five minutes left, and he found Robert Woods with another beautiful long pass on the next snap. But under pressure from blitzing Duron Harmon, Goff wound up and flung a high pass in the general direction of Cooks. The ball was underthrown, and Cooks lost a fight for the ball with Stephon Gilmore, who picked it off.Just like everyone in the Rams’ locker room, Cooks took the blame on himself.“I’m great enough to make that play,” Cooks said. “I’ve still got to make it, no matter what.”
