TOKYO -- Canadas first-round Davis Cup tennis tie will be played in Tokyo early next year. The Japan Tennis Federation has chosen Ariake Colosseum and an indoor hard court for its Jan. 31-Feb. 2 tie against Canada. The 8,000-seat venue also hosts an ATP Tour event in October. "For the first time in a couple of years we have to start the Davis Cup season on the road which is never easy," said Canadian Davis Cup team captain Martin Laurendeau. "At least this is a city and a venue that several of our team members are familiar with from the Tour event, but the atmosphere is always different for Davis Cup competition." Laurendeau says the team will also have to adjust to a different climate and conditions as they come off the Australian Open.
